Coming back from a week away, phone off, laptop closed and powered down, fully engaging with my own inner work at a time when I so needed it, I’m reminded how important it is to fill my own cup first.
The hashtag says it: start within.
But is that so easy to remember and implement?
They say you can not give from an empty cup. I don’t know about you — I say this easily, but the practice is hard to keep up. I often put my needs last. I think my service IS me. This is just who I am – I’m a giver. But, I often run the risk of giving giving giving, and forgetting to give to myself first; forgetting to care for me first; forgetting that if I’m going to do anything good in this world, especially in service to others, I need to be a happy, well-fueled, and efficient love-giving, care-taking, servicey (and I stop to not use the word “machine” and exchange it with:) BEING.
I can only give, if I’m ready to receive my own love and care and compassion. I can only give from a place of feeling energized, healthy, and fulfilled first.
So, here I go, cup filled, remembering that it will empty, and it is my duty and mine alone to come back to the well of well-being to refill, to give again.
